Skullcandy Uproar Review
In this Skullcandy Uproar review, we take a look at this cheap but good-quality Bluetooth headphone with good battery life and bass-heavy sound. Skullcandy is one of the world’s biggest headphone companies and competes in consumer portable audio, especially in heavily stylized and fashion-forward headphones. The Uproar is one of their budget headphones and can usually be found for under $50 in the US markets.
What is the Uproar?
The Uproar is a portable set of wireless Bluetooth headphones that are simple, lightweight, and portable. They claim a 10-hour battery life and we found that to be pretty spot on during the course of this review. They come with Bluetooth 4.0 and we were able to attain a range of about 50 feet with a solid audio connection. The pairing was easy with a long press of the power button to put them into pairing mode where you simply connect via your phone or media device.
Build Quality and Styling
Build quality is nothing special but they do feel solidly put together for a headphone in this price range. They are on-ear headphones meaning the earcups sit directly on your ears as opposed to over them. The headband folds just above the earcups meaning they can be folded over into a pretty small package.
Construction is predominantly plastic and they are extremely lightweight. The headband slider is also plastic so just be careful with them when extended as this tends to be more prone to breaking on other headphones we have reviewed in the past.
Overall we found them to be very well made (price considered) and they could make an excellent choice for people looking for inexpensive headphones to work out with or for people who use the headphones when out and about.
The uproar, due to its lightness, is a very comfortable headphone and the pads and headband are generously padded. I had no problem going 5+ hours with them without any discomfort or heat build-up.
Sound Quality
The sound on the Skullcandy Uproar is fun. The low end is very emphasized meaning they have a lot of bass so go well with energetic music like hip-hop, rap, and EDM. The midrange is smooth with a warm presentation making vocals and stringed instruments sound engaging. Mids are very rolled off and recessed. They sit further back than the midrange and thankfully display no signs of harsh sibilance.
They are distortion-free even at high volume which is something a lot of cheap Bluetooth headphones struggle with and they also do get very loud. I for the most part had the volume at about 60% of max inside the house and office and 70% when used at the gym or on transport.
They obviously aren’t audiophile headphones but for the price, they do sound quite good and I think a lot of people will enjoy the tuning of them.
Conclusion
The Skullcandy Uproar is a solid set of budget-friendly Bluetooth headphones. They are comfortable, reasonably well build and have a fun bass-heavy sound that many people will enjoy with modern music Genres. Battery life was solid at around 10 hours and the connection was stable with good reach. A nice set of headphones and well worth a purchase at the current prices.
